She Dares Live: Gen-e-Sis Event Recap
As part of a series of events, under the umbrella of #SheDaresLive, to move the conversation offline S+E hosted our first event June 29, 2016 in NYC! The purpose of curating these events is to show the variety of spaces that women of color can occupy. The event served as our introduction into events and a celebration of our one-year anniversary.
Titled Gen-e-Sis: Millennial Sista Entrepreneurs on Getting Started and Getting it Done, the event provided an intimate atmosphere with transparent conversation for attendees to learn and engage with three women making major waves in the field of entrepreneurship.
Panelists included Tracy G, edutainer, founder of She’s Beauty and the Beast and on-air member of Sway in the Morning; Lindsey Day, co-founder of CRWN Mag; and She’Neil Johnson, founder and owner of Base Butter. The panel was moderated by Charell, S+E founder.
Topics discussed included planning, funding your dream, strategic growth and how they keep it dope, fresh and fly the whole time (i.e. marketing and multitasking). Gen-e-Sis went beyond inspiration and motivation to provide attendees with practical tools and information to take as they begin or continue their entrepreneurial endeavors.
There were giveaways of Base Butter and a copy of From Nothing to New York from Rookie Cassondra Lenoir. All attendees received gift bags with a CRWN zine, Base Butter coupon, and goodies from S+E including a Revolutionary pin and logo sticker. Tracy G's affirmations are available on Soundcloud and iTunes.
Gen-e-Sis was a success and we are excited about the future of #SheDaresLive. A special thank you again to our panelists, sponsors and especially the volunteers for making this event a success.
