#SelfLoveSeries: Comparison Destroys Contentment
In terms of love and relationships loving yourself is probably the hardest thing to do and the most important when it comes to living a satisfied life. In complete transparency I am still in my journey of loving myself wholly, and I’ve come far but I realize there is still a ways to go. Each and every one of us is at a different point in our lives that may cause us to question who we are and why we are valuable.
There are many aspects to self-acceptance and one of them is knowing that Comparison destroys Contentment. How often have you looked at your Instagram news feed and had negative thoughts? Why is she so gorgeous? Why can’t I do that? Why doesn’t my hair look like that? Why can’t I afford to live that way? We find ourselves instantly comparing our lives to someone else’s social media profile. As I once heard, don’t compare your behind the scenes to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media is surface, and we only share the good. Seeing someone’s smiling photo does not reveal to you the personal struggles they are encountering or the everyday challenges they face. By comparing yourself to others you leave yourself open to constant disappointment and you’ll never measure up, because you’ll always desire to be like someone else.
As much as we hear it we must take it to heart: we are all different and it is those differences that make each of us special and necessary to the world around us. Instead of focusing on the WHY focus on the WHAT. What makes you unique? What do you like most about yourself? What in your life is going well? I challenge you to begin to focus on the WHAT. When you find yourself making comparisons close the app and change your thoughts to focus on you. It’s okay to be selfish when it comes to loving you.
Miracles and Blessings.
